Welcome to Nestoration OT and thank you for visiting!

This space provides a deeper dive into the scientific background of Reflex and Sensory Integration. You can find evidence-based research that supports this therapeutic approach at www.masgatovamethod.com.

Reflex Development is the first indicator of neurological health that is essential to support human development across all areas of functioning.

What are Reflexes?

Reflexes are specific motor responses a body has in response to a particular sensory stimulus in or out of the body.

Reflexes have two main functions:

The body’s built-in mechanism for safety and protection

The building blocks for growth and development

The human body has over 20 reflexes that must emerge, mature, and integrate in order to provide safety and age appropriate growth. This requires well-developed nervous, sensory, and motor systems that work together seamlessly, also known as the Neurosensorimotor Circuit.

Reflex Integration is the successful maturing of the reflexes to meet the body's needs as it grows. Each Reflex has it's own path from primitive newborn reflex to full integration. Each phase of the reflex's maturation is a mini milestone with important ramifications.

Failure of reflexes to integrate at the appropriate age serves as both a CLUE that the neurosensorimotor circuit is impaired, as well as the KEY of entry to repair the affected system/s.

Why would a reflex fail to integrate?

Because Reflexes have a protective function, the body must feel safe in order for reflex integration to proceed efficiently. We don't always know the cause of reflex dysfunction but often there is a component of danger or perceived danger to the individual. Some common causes of Reflex Dysfunction include:

Premature Birth

C-Section or other Birth Complications

NICU Stay or other Medical Event

Congenital or Acquired Medical Condition or Illness

Trauma or Prolonged Stress

What does the therapy look like?

We use a mixture of protocols that provide safety and positive protection to the body as well as support the efficiency of the neurosensorimotor circuit. Our treatment approach is client-centered, gentle, and supportive.

What populations do you treat at Nestoration OT?

We work with clients of all ages, ranging from newborn preemies through adulthood.

Our clients typically exhibit concerns or a cluster of concerns regarding development that may include:

Premature Birth

C-Section

Pregnancy or Birth Complications

Head Lag

Developmental Delays

Asymmetrical or Unusual Posturing of Arms, Legs, or Back

Failure of Newborn Reflexes to Emerge, Mature, or Integrate

Torticollis

PTSD or History of Trauma, including Medical Intervention such as NICU Stay

Neurological Conditions such as CP or Stroke

ADD/ADHD

Learning Disabilities

Fine or Gross Motor Coordination Concerns

ASD Spectrum

Sensory Integration Concerns such as craving or disliking touch, visual, auditory, or oral stimuli.

Difficulty with Balance

Aggressive Behavior

Victims of Bullying

Spatial Awareness Challenges

Social Immaturity

Disorganization

And More

What sets Reflex and Sensory Integration apart from other therapies?

Reflexes are the most basic human function. Working with the reflexes is like working with the basic hardwiring of the brain. Because reflexes bypass the cerebral cortex, the work is effective even with zero client participation.

In addition, building or restoring one reflex circuit can repair the underlying deficits in the nervous, sensory, or motor systems that leads to improvement in other areas of function that were not directly addressed.

Reflex and Sensory Integration Therapy can create powerful change in anyone from the moment of birth through older adulthood.

Our philosophy is "Why wait for delays to occur when you can prevent them?" This is true early intervention.
